What is TBI?
A traumatic brain injury (TBI) is an injury to the brain caused by the head being hit by something or shaken violently. This injury can change how the person acts, moves, and thinks. A traumatic brain injury can also change how a student learns and acts in school. The term TBI is used for head injuries that can cause changes in one or more areas, such as:
- thinking and reasoning
- understanding words
- remembering things
- paying attention
- solving problems
- thinking abstractly
- talking
- behaving
- walking and other physical activities
- seeing and/or hearing
- learning.
The term TBI is not used for a person who is born with a brain injury. It also is not used for brain injuries that happen during birth.
How common is TBI?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that every year at least 1.7 million TBIs occur in the United States (across all age groups), and TBIs are a contributing factor in about a third (30.5%) of all injury-related deaths. Older adolescents ages 15 to 19 years, adults ages 65 years and older, and males across all age groups are most likely to sustain a TBI.
Irrespective of receiving daily oral or future injectable depot therapies, these require health care visits for medication and monitoring of safety and response. If patients are treated early enough, before a lot of immune system damage has occurred, life expectancy is close to normal, as long as they remain on successful treatment. However, when patients stop therapy, virus rebounds to high levels in most patients, sometimes associated with severe illness because i have gone through this and even an increased risk of death. The aim of “cure”is ongoing but i still do believe my government made millions of ARV drugs instead of finding a cure. for ongoing therapy and monitoring. ARV alone cannot cure HIV as among the cells that are infected are very long-living CD4 memory cells and possibly other cells that act as long-term reservoirs. HIV can hide in these cells without being detected by the body’s immune system.
